Rosé
PRODUCTION NOTES: Rosés are an important backbone of the Northern Michigan wine industry. This style of wine gives us the thing we crave most out of the fruit we grow – flexibility. It is because we are a cool climate growing region that we need to maximize the potential of the fruit that grows well here. Rose’ can be an integral part of red wine production for con-centrating the reds in a hot vintage, a chance to exemplify the diversity of wine styles we can create in a warm vintage, or an opportunity to make a great wine from red fruit in a cooler vintage. A true Rose’ is made from a minimum amount of extraction from the skins. The wines spend a minimal time aging in tank as they are best served getting into the bottle to be enjoyed for their youth. This Rose’ is made from 100% Syrah grown in the Columbia valley. It only requires a few hours of skin extraction to result in the desired color. It’s a good facsimile to styles we make from fruit grown here.
WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES: As with most Rosés, red fruits dominate the aromatic descriptors. This one is flush with strawberry and raspberry notes. Still, it does have subtle complexities that are more naturally floral with flavors that are reminiscent of those found in honeydew melon.
PRODUCTION: 3 hour cold soak, aged in stainless steel for 5 months.
